The name 'El Caganer' literally means 'the pooper'. It is a figurine that is usually placed in nativity scenes, as a tradition in Catalonia, usually hidden in a corner, behind a bush, crouched and in the posture of defecating. Traditionally, the figure is represented as a peasant, with the traditional Catalan red cap (the barretina) and with his pants down, showing his bare rear and defecating.
